The Surprisingly Sexy Truth About Easter

Fertility doesn’t follow a calendar. But if it did? Easter might just be circled.

Spring has officially sprung, and with it comes candyfloss blossoms, longer days - and according to some surprising science - a spike in baby-making energy. That’s right: Easter just might be the most fertile holiday of the year.

Here’s what the data says:

  • A 2018 study published in Human Reproduction found that conception rates in the UK tend to peak in late March and early April, with a noticeable bump around the Easter period.

  • Searches related to pregnancy and fertility consistently climb during springtime, according to Google Trends.

  • Anecdotally, more babies are born in late December than any other month in the UK - which points to, you guessed it, increased conception around Easter. (Do the math: December babies = Easter conceptions.)

So how to make the most out of the long weekend?

We asked OVA's resident Medical Advisor and Sexual Function Expert, Dr Anand Patel for his spicy tips - the three F's.

Keep It Fun

Why fun, well it can be a bit tiresome having sex on the clock, so try and have a laugh with it and be as relaxed as possible.

Keep Up The Foreplay

By focusing on the foreplay you can, in fact, maximise female lubrication.  This is important because by using extra lubricants, some can damage the sperm (even if they are considered sperm safe) or interfere with the nutrient liquid that sperm comes in.

Keep It Frequent

So why do we talk about frequency?  Sperm actually goes off if they've been stored in the testicles for too long, so try and have sex every day around ovulation window and then every other day to keep the quality as good as it can be.

Now hop to it....
